Community Service

...Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant...just as the Son of Man
did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Matthew 20:26, 28

Orangewood Christian School encourages all students to give of their time and talents to serve the Orlando area and beyond. Students volunteer for a variety of local organizations/ministries in our community as well as participating in missions around the world.

Hours totaling more than the basic requirement in the fall may be carried over to the spring semester; however, hours may not be carried from one year to the next. A Service Hours Form, along with a list of potential service organizations, may be found on RenWeb or picked up in the guidance/spiritual life office. This is not an exhaustive inventory, but merely lists those organizations that have asked to be posted or where a number of students have served in the past. Additional organizations will be added to this list from time to time. Students are also strongly encouraged to partner with their local church in service opportunities.

• Freshmen and Sophomores are required to complete 20 service hours per year. (10 per semester)
• Juniors and Seniors are required to complete 22 service hours per year. (11 per semester)
Examples of local volunteer opportunities:
Savannah Court Ministry
Trunk or Treat
Operation Christmas Child
Coalition for the Homeless
New Hope for Kids
Orlando Children's Church

The Florida Bright Futures scholarship program requires community service for both the
Florida Academic and Medallion scholarships. Students must complete 100 service hours for the
Florida Academic scholarship and 75 service hours for the Florida Medallion during their high school years.
Students are responsible for submitting all service hours by using the service hours forms and turning it in to the high school office.
